The Polish chapter of the international organization will commence its operation in 2019.

On September 20, at the Warsaw University of Technology, an information meeting on the establishment of the Polish chapter of buildingSMART was held. The organization is to act as a forum for debate for environments that strive to popularize BIM (Building Information Modeling) standards in Poland—both in the public and private sector. Its tasks will include coordinating activities for the promotion of BIM, conducting educational activities and raising the quality of education for construction professionals, elaboration of a certification system in line with buildingSMART International principles as well as international cooperation in developing new standards. The Polish chapter of the buildingSMART organization is to officially launch its activities at the beginning of 2019.

The meeting was organized by the representatives of the Agreement for the creation of buildingSMART Polska—the companies: Electra M&E Polska, Engie Technika Instalacyjna, HOCHTIEF Polska, Mostostal Warszawa, Mota-Engil Central Europe and Warbud. One of the first members of the Polish buildingSMART division will be Polskie Sieci Elektroenergetyczne, which will bring to the organization the individually developed BIM standard for energy investments based on open standards of communication and data exchange.

Around 200 guests from construction, design and technology companies, as well as representatives of central administration, industry organizations, chambers of commerce and universities participated in the information meeting. The broad interest in buildingSMART indicates the need to capture the debate on the implementation of digital standards in the construction and public sector into a common framework.

buildingSMART is an independent international non-profit organization whose aim is to create, improve and promote open standards of information exchange in the construction sector, but also to certify software and professionals. The Polish buildingSMART chapter will bring together participants of the construction market and their business partners. More information can be found on the website http://buildingsmart.org.pl.

For over two years, HOCHTIEF Polska has been consistently implementing BIM in its operational activities. Currently, the company uses a BIM-type environment, among others in design work related to the implementation of the Air Traffic Control Centre in Poznań.
