Symbolic start of construction works carried out by HOCHTIEF Polska

On 17th October, with a symbolic ground-breaking ceremony, the realization of the retail center Supersam in Katowice was inaugurated officially. The investment has been developed by Griffin Group, the owner of retail centre Renoma in Wrocław and of a reconstruction project of Hala Koszyki (Koszyki Hall) in Warsaw. The general contractor of the project is HOCHTIEF Polska Branch in Kraków. The project scope includes execution of design works and construction of the retail center Supersam. The emergent investment will be a building with five overground storeys (inclusive two car park storeys) and one underground floor. The new building will house about 100 shops and service points typical for retail parks, as well as, a modern cinema and a fitness club. The ground and first storeys will be commercial space occupied by shops, and the second storey is designed for cinema, restaurants and recreational facilities. A car park will occupy the roof and part of third and fourth storeys.

The underground part will provide retail space, as well as technical facilities, storage space and delivery area. A distinguishing feature of the investment is the main part of the building where fourth steel spans from the original welded construction of the old Supersam hall will be kept within the new structure. Above the entire open space, there has been designed a roof lantern linked in its shape to the construction of the historic hall. The total area of the project will amount to 42,800 square metres.

Construction works has been planned to be finished in September 2015.
– We commenced construction works in August, after having realized execution design that enabled construction works. Works, we have done so far, include stock-taking in neighbouring buildings, shifting networks and preparing works for slurry walls. Now we are constructing slurry walls which will go 19 metres deep - said Arkadiusz Zioła, project manager in HOCHTIEF Polska Branch in Kraków.
