On 22nd May, with a symbolic ground-breaking ceremony, the construction works of the municipal incineration plant project in Poznań was inaugurated officially. The symbolic ceremony marked the completion of the first stage of project which consisted of design work including the necessary consultations and the official permit process. The venture is a public-private partnership between the City of Poznań and the private company SITA Zielona Energia. SITA Zielona Energia charged the consortium of Hitachi Zosen Inova, HOCHTIEF Polska and HOCHTIEF Solutions with design works in relation to technology and construction works as well as completion of the project.

The municipal incineration plant with capacity of 210 000 ton yearly will be put into operation in the middle of 2016. The company SITA Zielona Energia will operate ITPOK over 25 years. MIP is going to be located on the land belonging to the City of Poznań, in a direct neighbourhood of the Karolin CHP plant on an area of approx. 3 hectares (in the north-east district of the city). Owing to the MIP the City of Poznań will fulfill requirements regarding limits of municipal waste on storage yards, with accordance to the Polish and European law.

It is the first investment of this kind in Poland, realized in public-private partnership. The scope of the works contracted by consortium with HOCHTIEF Polska and HOCHTIEF Solutions includes comprehensive technology, designing and erecting the buildings of the facility, its internal road and auxiliary infrastructure as well as the accompanying utility systems. Before the construction works were started, a design works including the necessary consultations and the official permit process were held.
