HOCHTIEF Polska Kpis-Cracovia Branch and the Andrzej Frycz Modrzewski Krakow University College have signed a contract for the third stage of construction of the College Campus and of the International Youth Centre in Krakow.
According to the design, the third stage of the investment is to be a building with four overground storeys of a functional floorage of 7,872 sqm and cubage of 47,500 cubic metres, comprising lecturing facilities, a library, a hotel and a cafeteria for students. The contemporary design has been created by the Krakow-based Agencja Projektowa Architektury EKSPO s.c.
The first building of the Campus, located at Gustaw Herling Grudziński Street in the Krakow district of Podgorze, was commissioned in August 2004 and the second has been in use since July 2005.
HOCHTIEF Polska Kpis-Cracovia Branch was the general contractor for both buildings.
The third building within the educational complex is to be located in its northern part, along a planned boulevard which is to be lining the Vistula River. The third building will be accessed via an entrance zone, created as a result of expanding the internal courtyard between the first and the second building.
After the expansion has been completed, the buildings of the Andrzej Frycz Modrzewski Krakow University College will form a coherent architectural complex.
The distinctive feature of the Krakow educational complex is its elegance and harmony. The wavy form of the buildings has been inspired by the nearby Vistula River. The glass walls of the complex reflect the adjacent Campus buildings.
The space between the two buildings constructed within the first two stages of the investment will be enlivened with small architectural elements, such as terraces with wide stairs, greenery and low walls with benches.
The construction work at the site is to start in August 2007 and is to be completed in September 2008.
Having finalised the third stage of the Campus, the Andrzej Frycz Modrzewski Krakow University College will become one of the most advanced, fully independent colleges in Poland, offering its students access to a variety of educational facilities and a selection of auxiliary services.
The original architecture and modern construction solutions leveraged at the construction of the Academy Campus have already earned recognition from construction industry experts. In 2004 the first stage of the investment was distinguished with a prestigious “Construction of the Year” prize in a competition organized by the Polish Association of Construction Engineers and Technicians. Justifying its verdict, the jury emphasised the architectural value and functionality of the state-of-the-art educational complex.
In the same year, HOCHTIEF Polska Kpis-Cracovia Branch was awarded a Golden Drill for the Campus in the 9th Edition of “Platinum Drill” Competition in the public utility building category.
