Expanded airport will increase its capacity 2.5 times – 40,000 square meters of additional terminal space – Project will be completed in 2011
Consortium of HOCHTIEF Polska and HOCHTIEF Construction won the contract to expand Wrocław Strachowice Airport. The scope of work includes the construction of a new terminal with an area of approx. 40,000 square metres as well as its technical buildings and auxiliary structures. The work is to be started in July this year and is scheduled to be completed in March 2011. The capacity of the new terminal will come to above 2 million passengers per year. The expanded airport will be able to serve 2.5 times more passengers per year than before. The project is worth PLN 243 m (54 m EUR), i.e. gross PLN 296 m (66 m EUR).
The new terminal has been designed under IATA's C Standard as a hall with three overground storeys and one underground one. It will comprise both airside and landside zones. Some 57,000 square metres of hardened surface, such as access roads, yards and a car park with more than 1,000 parking spaces are also part of the project. The consortium will also deliver a baggage handling system. Since 1970, HOCHTIEF Construction has completed over 60 airport construction and expansion projects worldwide. The company built airports e.g. in Moscow, Russia (2006 – 2009), Düsseldorf, Germany (1998-2003), Athens, Greece (1996-2001), Beirut, Lebanon (1994-2000), Warsaw, Poland (1990-92), Jeddah, Saudi Arabia (1974-84).
