HOCHTIEF Polska Branch in Poznań hands over a new lecture and workshop building. It is to be opened on 10th December, 2012.
The scope of the project included construction of a new lecture and workshop building of the Academy of Fine Arts in Wrocław and additional infrastructure. The new building located at the junction of Traugutta and Krasińskiego streets occupies an area of more than 13,000 square metres and houses the Centre of Practical Art and the Innovation Centre. With the attic level as high as 25 metres above the ground, it has four storeys and one underground floor.
Its top floors have been designed to be narrower at the point of the building’s contact with the neighbouring houses in order to reduce the visual difference of height compared to the adjacent buildings. The ground floor space is occupied by design studios as well as ceramics and glass workshops. It also includes a small-sized glass mill dedicated for the exclusive use of the Academy’s students. The upper floors of the Centre house three seminar rooms, two smaller and a large one, the latter is capable of welcoming up to 150 students. In addition to a car park, the underground part provides space for storage purposes of the sculpture, ceramics, design and glass art departments. Another assets of the building is a simple shape covered with glass facades. Its glazed walls create an impression of lightness and reflect the garden, which is the central landmark of the Academy campus, giving an illusion of the park extending beyond its actual borders. The project „Construction of the Academy of Fine Arts in Wrocław. The Centre of Practical Art and the Innovation Centre” was co-financed from EU funds within the programme 11.3-Infrastructure of art education, priority XI – Culture and Cultural Heritage of the Operative Programme Infrastructure and Environment 2007-2013.
“Every single project, which we hand over to investor determines the character of the place, where it was built. Every partner of the investment, beginning with architect, and ending with general contractor takes a care of integration into the existing neighbourhood. In case of the Academy of Fine Arts expansion we had to combine tradition and modern trends. The project demanded construction of modern educational building, which should house a professional installation of technological equipment and integrate with existing Academy of Fine Arts building. It has been achieved because of the good co-operation and commitment of all partners of the investment. We are very satisfied and happy to turn the finished structure over to the investor. It’s not just an ordinary lecture building, it is an incredibly interesting object because of its architecture solutions, which enable visitors of extern art gallery of the Academy direct contact with the art.” says Robert Kasprzak, Sales Director at HOCHTIEF Polska Representative Office in Wrocław.
